7-year-old dies after emergency responders receive call for unresponsive child in Rothsay

ROTHSAY, Minn. — A 7-year-old child in Rothsay was pronounced dead on Wednesday, March 13, after emergency responders received a call for an unresponsive child.

According to a press release from the Wilkin County Sheriff’s Office, Otter Tail County Emergency Dispatch received the call from the 100 block of Second Avenue Northwest in Rothsay around 2:58 p.m. Wednesday.

Rothsay Rescue responded, and CPR was in progress when crew members arrived, the release said. The child was transported to Lake Region Hospital in Fergus Falls, where the child was pronounced dead.

The child’s body was taken to the Midwest Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy. An investigation is pending autopsy results, said the release.

Rothsay is roughy 43 miles southeast of Fargo.

Out-of-control grass fire turns fatal in west-central Minnesota

BARNESVILLE, Minn. — A man has died in what authorities described as an out-of-control grass fire in west-central Minnesota.

Law enforcement have not yet identified the man who died in the blaze that started around 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 30, at a home near 130th Street and Minnesota Trunk Highway 9.

The fire consumed a semi and several vehicles, threatened several outbuildings and surrounded two farmsteads, according to the Wilkin County Sheriff's Office.

The man who died lived in one of the homes at the fire scene, the sheriff's office said.

An autopsy will seek to determine his cause of death.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire.

Wilkin County sheriff's deputies, the Barnesville Fire Department and Barnesville Ambulance responded to the fire, which was about 30 miles southeast of Moorhead.
