AVON, Minn. - Two adults are dead after their horse-drawn buggy was struck from behind by a Ford F-150 pickup at 11:17 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 16, on County Road 9 north of Avon.
The crash was reported by the pickup's OnStar impact activation system. Several passers-by stopped to assist at the crash scene. While officers were en route, information was received that both parties in the buggy were critically injured and CPR was in progress, according to a news release.

According to Stearns County Sheriff Don Gudmundson, the pickup, driven by Marc Lucas Knapp, 23, of Avon, was traveling north on County Road 9. The buggy, occupied by a 72-year-old man and a 66-year-old woman, was traveling the same direction. Knapp struck the buggy from behind, sending it into the east ditch.
County Road 9 was closed temporarily while aid was rendered and an investigation was conducted. At 2:45 p.m., the road was reopened.
The deceased parties were taken to the Ramsey County Medical Examiner's Office. The condition of the pickup driver is unknown.
The horse was severely injured and died at the scene.
This crash remains under investigation.
