BEMIDJI-The Chippewa National Forest has completed the majority of the work involved with the West Winnie Harbor Modification Project and the West Winnie boat landing is now open for use during the winter season, officials said.
The area had been closed since late September. West Winnie Campground and boat launch are located on Forest Road 2168, approximately 18 miles east of Cass Lake.

West Winnie project contractors filled in a portion of the existing boat launch harbor, relocated the
boat ramp and dock and dredged a channel to the ramp. The purpose of the project is to reduce the risk of transporting faucet snails and zebra mussels to other bodies of water on boats and trailers.
Completion of the project will take place after the spring thaw and the site will be closed for a time. No dates have been announced for that phase of the project. For more information, contact the Forest Supervisor's office at (218) 335-8658.
