CROOKSTON, Minn. -- The University of Minnesota, Crookston reported record enrollment again Tuesday, and again, online students were the key source of growth.

This fall semester, UMC has a total of 1,813 students, 11 more than in fall 2012. Of the fall 2013 total, about 800 are only taking online classes, an increase of about 100 from last fall.

The remaining 1,000 or so students study primarily on campus -- some take the occasional online class -- about 100 fewer than last fall.

Overall, enrollment has broken records for the past seven years, to the point that UMC administrators are beginning to talk about how much more the university can or should grow.

“That is an active discussion on campus,” university spokesman Andrew Svec said Tuesday. “Where do we want to go? What are our goals?”

He stressed that the university will focus on both on-campus and online courses.
