BEMIDJI -- Nearly a year after he was last seen, about 20 friends, family, and other community members gathered again Saturday to look for missing Cass Lake teen Jeremy Jourdain.

“We’re looking for any sign of Jeremy,” said Anita Cloud, a longtime family friend. Jourdain was last seen Halloween night in Bemidji’s Nymore neighborhood. Volunteers on Saturday trudged up and down nearby Roosevelt Road and through some nearby trailheads and a cemetery.

Alex Tanner, Jourdain’s aunt who’s been a catalyst for past searches and a vigil, said she hoped to get some fresh eyes in the area and keep up her nephew’s profile in the community, which could lead to a new tip.

“It’s been 11 months now,” Tanner said. “There’s bound to be something that shows up.”

Cloud and five other searchers combed the thick grass on either side of a two-mile stretch of Roosevelt, knocked on at least one door and talked to some neighbors in their long dirt driveway.

They were looking for a piece of clothing, a cell phone, or any other sign of the missing teen. Cloud said she was also looking for darkly colored vegetation, which could indicate a body.

“I'm sure the chances aren't the greatest, but we have optimism,” said John Charwood, another searcher and Jourdain family friend. “I just pray for the family and I hope they have closure soon for this. I'm sure it's a lot to go through. I would hate to have to go through this myself. That's why I'm here today: to help my friends.”

Local law enforcement didn’t conduct any searches of their own on Saturday, Bemidji Police Department staff said. But they searched several areas in Bemidji by land and by air shortly after the teen was reported missing, including the Nymore areas searched on Saturday, and were in contact with Tanner in case the amateur search produced a possible clue about the Jourdain’s whereabouts.

Large-scale community searches grew further and further apart as winter set in last year. Staff at the Shakopee Police Department said they received a tip in late August that put Jourdain in the south metro suburb.

Jourdain is not considered a runaway. He is described as a 6-foot-4-inch, 175-pound Native American male with short, dark brown hair and brown eyes. He was last seen wearing a blue and gray hooded sweatshirt and gray sweatpants.

If you have information about Jourdain’s whereabouts, call Bemidji Police at (218) 333-9111.
