MOORHEAD, Minn. 鈥� The pilot of a small plane made a successful emergency landing on a rural road in Clay County Friday afternoon, April 19, after the plane developed a mechanical problem.
The incident happened shortly after 3:40 p.m. when emergency workers were dispatched to the North Dakota Air National Guard in north Fargo on a report that a small plane was headed to the Guard's airfield with engine trouble.

Shortly after, the response was canceled when dispatchers were informed the plane had landed on a rural road in Minnesota about 11 miles north of Fargo.
Shawn Dobberstein, executive director of the Fargo Municipal Airport Authority, said he understood that a plane carrying only its pilot landed on a dirt road northeast of Fargo's Hector International Airport near Highway 75 in Minnesota.
He said a member of the Fargo Airport Fire Department drove to the scene and confirmed the pilot was fine. He added the plane had apparently experienced an engine problem.
No other information was immediately available.
