Man accidentally shot by hunting partner in Becker County

The man was shot in the hip/leg when his hunting partner’s firearm discharged while the hunting partner was attempting to ensure the firearm was unloaded.

A man from Minneapolis was injured when, according to the Becker County Sheriff's Office, he was accidentally shot when his hunting partner was unloading his weapon and it discharged.

BECKER COUNTY — A 40-year-old Minneapolis man suffered an accidental, non-life-threatening gunshot wound while hunting in a wooded area of Forest Township in Becker County on Sunday, Nov. 5, according to a Becker County Sheriff’s Office news release.

At approximately 11:33 a.m., the sheriff’s office received a 911 call about the accidental shooting. Jeremy Nicholos Sailor was shot in the hip/leg when his hunting partner’s firearm discharged while the hunting partner was attempting to ensure the firearm was unloaded.

Sailor was transported by a private vehicle, but the vehicle eventually broke down. First responders located Sailor and then transferred him to the Sanford hospital in Bemidji.

His condition is unknown at this time, and the sheriff’s office is not investigating the incident due to its accidental nature.

First responders included: the Becker County Sheriff’s Office, White Earth Tribal Police Department, White Earth Conservation, Minnesota DNR, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, North Memorial Ambulance and Carsonville Rescue.
