FRAZEE, Minn. — The Minnesota Department of Public Safety has named Todd Ole Burris, 36, of Bemidji, as the suspect who was at the Frazee rest stop in Otter Tail County on Wednesday evening.

Ernster said Thursday that Burris is expected to be booked into the Otter Tail County Jail on suspicion of aggravated assault once released from the hospital.

“The BCA investigation into the circumstances of this incident are just beginning,” Ernster said in an email. “To maintain the integrity of the investigation we will not be sharing any more information related to this incident.”

According to an Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office release, authorities responded to a domestic assault report in the 20000 block of Becker County Highway 21 at about 5:30 p.m. July 9. The caller said that an adult male suspect, now identified as Burris, entered their residence, attacked them and stole a firearm.

Deputies later spotted Burris’ vehicle in Detroit Lakes, but he fled, the press release stated. The Detroit Lakes Police Department joined the pursuit, with assistance from the Minnesota State Patrol and the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office.

The chase continued into Otter Tail County, where Burris eventually pulled into the Frazee rest stop. According to the release, officers then made contact with Burris, shooting him.

Officers rendered aid at the scene before Burris was transported to Essentia Health in Detroit Lakes and later transferred to Essentia in Fargo.

No officers were hurt.
