BEMIDJI — The Bemidji City Council will convene this evening to once again discuss cannabis operations in the city along with a proposal relating to the Bemidji Rail Corridor reconstruction project.

The council will also sign a memorandum of understanding between the city and the Marion Dessert Memorial Fund, specifically designated for the Lake Boulevard Bench Reconstruction Project.

Following discussions at a June 24 work session, the council will conduct a first reading of an Interim Ordinance prohibiting the operation of cannabis businesses.

This ordinance, drafted in response to state legalization, includes a moratorium exempting medical cannabis and cannabis edibles already permitted within the city. It aims to provide time for studying planning and zoning regulations related to cannabis businesses until Jan. 1, 2025, or until further state regulatory measures are finalized.

Updates from the Beltrami County Historical Society and discussions on proposed infrastructure projects round out the agenda.

The meeting will take place at 6 p.m. tonight, July 1, at city hall. The meeting can also be viewed on the city website,
