BEMIDJI — Northwoods Habitat for Humanity will begin building a new home in Bemidji this summer, and donations will qualify for a Minnesota Housing Finance Agency tax credit.
The 85% tax credit covers donations toward the NHFH Home 63 project of no less than $1,000 and no more than $2 million.

"Donating to this specific project benefits our affordable homeownership program," said a release.
The credit is available for taxpayers though businesses may also apply. MHFA will issue successful applicants a credit certificate to be claimed when taxes are filed.
The credit must be claimed in the year the contribution was made — if donated in 2025, the credit must be used while filing 2025 taxes in 2026 — and can only be used to offset current tax liability. Excess credits may be carried over to each of the 10 succeeding taxable years.
The tax credit has a limit and if reached, subsequent applications will not be accepted.
Checks must be written out to Minnesota Housing to qualify.
