Greater Bemidji Area Joint Planning Board to dissolve Dec. 31

The Greater Bemidji Area Joint Planning Board will dissolve on Dec. 31, with important deadlines for applications prior to Bemidji and Northern Township taking over responsibility, respectively.

BEMIDJI — The partnership between Bemidji and Northern Township, known as the Greater Bemidji Area Joint Planning Board, will be dissolving at 11:59 p.m. on Dec. 31, with all planning and zoning requests after that time going to the local government where the property is located for service.

The JPB staff will become the new Planning and Zoning Department for the city of Bemidji and will continue to be located in Bemidji City Hall. Northern Township Planning and Zoning will be located at the town hall, at 445 Town Hall Road Northwest, Bemidji.

With the transition, the JPB website will be retired after all of the documents have been archived into the city files, sometime in 2024 and new webpage for will be created.

Important dates to keep in mind as these changes unfold are as follows:

  • Northern Township: The last day to accept and process applications will be Friday, Dec. 29, with a deadline of 4:30 p.m. Any Northern Township applications applied for after Dec. 29 will be canceled and the applicant will be notified to reach out to
  • Northern Township: The township will receive all historical and current applications by 4:30 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 15.
  • Bemidji: All city of Bemidji applications will be processed accordingly, apply for city of Bemidji applications on the
  • Bemidji: The city of Bemidji’s planning case timelines have been slightly modified for the new year, see the city’s planning and zoning webpage for deadline and meeting dates.
