Gov. Walz signs executive order to support veterans following severe storm

Executive Order 25-07 will provide direct financial relief to veterans and their families, including housing, utilities and other needs as determined by the Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs.

BEMIDJI — Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz has signed an executive order that will provide direct financial assistance to veterans of Beltrami County following the devastating storm that swept through the area on June 21.

will amend Executive Order 25-06 to authorize the to activate the Disaster Relief Program. This will provide direct financial relief to veterans and their families, including housing, utilities and other needs as determined by the MDVA.

The executive order is effective immediately.

“Beltrami County has faced incredible hardship in the wake of these storms, and we continue to stand alongside Minnesotans impacted — including our veterans and their families,” Walz said in a release. “This order ensures veterans have access to the support they’ve earned as recovery continues across the region.”

This follows Walz's declaration of a peacetime emergency that expired on June 30. Damage assessments are ongoing and additional assistance may be added in the future, according to the release.
