June 28, 2015 – After CNBC named Minnesota as “America’s Top State for Business,” local officials say Bemidji shares the trend. According to Chamber of Commerce President Lori Paris, Bemidji’s proximity to U.S. Highways 2 and 71, its airport, and its infrastructure enable economic growth in the region.

June 28, 2000 – The Bemidji City Finance Director Ron Eischens is urging citizens to pass a half-percent city sales tax to be used for parks, recreation, the arena and the library. He said Bemidji is in a strong financial position, but all the reserve funds have already been committed to capital improvement projects.

June 28, 1975 – The Northwoods 4-H Dog Club of Bemidji held its third annual fun match at the curling arena, with participants hailing from Duluth, Grand Rapids, Verndale, Wadena, Menahga, Fertile and Bemidji. Trophies were awarded to first-place winners and ribbons were given to the top four places.
100 years ago
June 28, 1925 – The first cutting of the 1925 crop of alfalfa on the Bemidji Experimental Farm of the University of Minnesota is being made this week. There are 18 acres of alfalfa on the farm, divided into 300 different plots, each of which are treated with a different soil feed or fertilizer. The alfalfa will be cut and weighed by hand.
