June 21, 2015 – At age 38, the oldest wild bald eagle ever known to exist was recently discovered dead alongside a road in New York as the result of a collision with a vehicle. According to records, the eagle’s leg band identified it as a bird captured as a nestling near Lake Puposky, north of Bemidji.

June 21, 2000 – Mayor Doug Peterson announced this week that the Home Depot company will build a store this fall along Middle Avenue Northwest. Corporate spokesperson Jami Buck said one of Bemidji’s selling points was the 90,000 people who live within the 45-mile radius “golden circle” trade area.

June 21, 1975 – A 52-year-old Fremont, Mich., man vacationing near Northome drowned after he fell from a boat while returning from a fishing trip. According to the Itasca County Sheriff’s Office, the man had been sitting in a lawn chair on the boat when a wave caused him to lose his balance and fall overboard.

June 21, 1925 – D.S. Mitchell, one of the best artists in the city of Bemidji at the casting game, has caught the record black bass of the season so far in one of the lakes in the Park Rapids area and has since entered it in the Beltrami Avenue Hardware’s fishing contest. The specimen weighed four pounds.
