The Kitchigami Regional Library System presents “For the Love of Loons: A Storytime for All Ages” with author Laura Purdie Salas.
The Minnesota Book Award-winning author will share portions of her two books about loons – “Finding Family: The Duckling Raised by Loons,” a 2025 Star of the North Award Nominee, and “Secrets of the Loon” – during a tour of the region.

Participants of all ages will help Salas read, learn to walk like a loon, find out about the book creation process and ask questions. Through the month of August while supplies last, library visitors may also pick up a loon “take and make” kit to bring home or to the cabin as a fun, kid-friendly activity.
Stops on Monday, Aug. 26 include a “walk and read” 11 a.m. at the Green Island Preserve and Retreat in Wadena, hosted by the Wadena City Library, and a 2:30 p.m. storytime at the Park Rapids Area Library.
Salas will also visit the Bemidji Public Library at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 27, followed by the Blackduck Library at 2 p.m., before going on to Cass Lake, Longville, Pine River, Crosslake, Pequot Lakes and Brainerd during Aug. 28-30.
