CLEARBROOK — The Minnesota State Arts Board recently awarded the city of Clearbrook a $35,000 Arts Experiences grant to capture stories of Clearbrook community members.

Places are the one thing we all share, and this makes them the perfect canvas for the Storytelling Experience Project, a release said.

The goal of this project is to create a shared library of human experience, history and wisdom about what has happened in Clearbrook that will be shared with generations to come. The story will continue to grow with each coming day and new experiences will be added, the release said.

"Maybe in the very spot where you had your first kiss, a young couple became engaged two generations before," the release continued. "Or where you picked wildflowers near the lake as a kid half a century ago, an old man is now spending his last days feeling the warmth of the sun on his weathered skin, seeing that same field of wildflowers while he quietly waits for the fish to take his worm."

The project will kick off by bringing National Storyteller Bil Lepp to the Clearbrook All-ÍáÍáÂþ» Class Reunion in June. He will give a performance and offer a free workshop to help community members capture their family stories. For more information about Lepp and his work, visit

Following the June event, local writers Ann Marie Newman and Juleigh Prosser will begin the process of capturing, gathering and archiving stories through video and text. The pair will record stories geographically specific to Clearbrook, with a focus on elders, the release said.

Their work will culminate in a public event, showcasing the premier of the collected works.

Other times, this byline is used when a news story includes numerous authors or when the story is formed by aggregating previously reported news from various sources. If outside sources are used, it is noted within the story.
