TEN LAKES TOWNSHIP -- Beltrami County deputies are investigating a suspicious letter sent to a candidate for Leech Lake Tribal Council.
According to a news release from the Beltrami County Sheriff鈥檚 Office, Donald Finn, 71, of Cass Lake, reported Monday that he had received suspicious mail containing a threatening message and some powder.

The Beltrami County Sheriff鈥檚 Office, the FBI and the Minnesota Chemical Assessment Team responded and took custody of the mail. It was sent to the Minnesota Department of Health for analysis.
A family member of Finn鈥檚 provided the Pioneer with a photo of the message, which said 鈥淒ead Men Can鈥檛 Talk,鈥� followed by an expletive.
Finn, who is running for the position of secretary/treasurer against incumbent Arthur 鈥淎rchie鈥� LaRose, as well as candidates Steven Howard and Arlen Wakefield, told investigators that he thinks the threat is related to his candidacy.
Finn appealed LaRose鈥檚 certification as a candidate in January, though the Minnesota Chippewa Tribe鈥檚 Tribal Election Court of Appeals denied Finn鈥檚 appeal Feb. 7.
