LAKE CITY - A four-hour standoff ended Wednesday night after police discovered a man dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound in a Lake City home, authorities said.
Lake City police responded to a residence around 5:19 p.m. after receiving a report that the man, indentified as Benjamin Anderson, had sent threatening text messages and was possibly armed, according to a news release.
After several unsuccessful attempts to communicate with Anderson, an emergency response team entered the residence and discovered his body, police said.
A perimeter was set up around the home and nearby residents were temporarily evacuated.
Lincoln High حلحلآ», about a block from the scene, was put on lockdown as a precaution, Principal Greg Berge said. He received a call from the school resource officer at about 5:20 p.m. informing him of the situation.
Although classes had already let out for the evening, the school was hosting extracurricular activities, including tennis and volleyball, Berge said. Those students were allowed to leave the school with a parent on the side of the building farthest from the standoff, he said.
