CASS LAKE -- The Showy Ladyslipper is making its summer appearance and the Chippewa National Forest will be hosting a number of special events to celebrate Minnesota’s State Flower. Visitors are invited to presentations about the Showy Ladyslipper and other orchids at 1 p.m. June 25 at the Norway Beach Visitor Center, located four miles east of Cass Lake off U.S. Highway 2.
Botanist George-Ann Maxson will present an orchid program followed by a car caravan up the Ladyslipper Scenic Byway. People are invited to follow Maxson and Chippewa Forest naturalist Susan Short to a number of stops along the byway to view the Showy Ladyslippers. The car caravan will travel between Norway Beach and Pennington, approximately nine miles one way. The Visitor Center naturalist will have some ladyslipper art activities on hand throughout the day.
