Mason is also charged with a felony count of possession of a firearm.

On Nov. 13, police were sent to a home in Audubon, Minn., after Mason called 911 saying he shot a man, according to court documents.

Officers found the victim, identified as 35-year-old Steven Scott Lafazia, deceased upon arrival.

Mason told police he and Lafazia had been drinking during the day and got into an argument when they returned to the home. Mason claimed Lafazia was about to attack him when he shot him, court documents said.

In one police interview, Mason told investigators Lafazia had his arms extended when he shot him but later said in another interview that Lafazia was reaching for a knife, according to court documents.
