AVON, Minn. -- The Stearns County Sheriff's Department is investigating a case of animal abuse involving a yellow Lab that was shot, according to a news release.
The release said the department received a call Tuesday morning from a resident in Avon Township who found an injured male yellow Labrador lying under a tree.

The resident brought the dog to a veterinarian who believed the dog was shot four times in the face and twice in the hind quarters by a pellet gun. According to the release, the several shots penetrated the dog's muzzle and broke the dog's jaw.
The dog has been treated and is in the care of the Stearns County Sheriff's Department. The department is currently trying to locate the owner of the dog and figure out who is responsible for the injuries.
