CASS LAKE -- The Chippewa National Forest has scheduled a prescribed burn today near Lake Winnibigoshish.
The 188-acre West Winnie controlled burn is located near the western shore of Lake Winnibigoshish, approximately 17 miles northeast of Cass Lake.

While fire crews are on location, large columns of smoke may be visible from long distances throughout the afternoon. Smoke will be visible from U.S Highway 2 and County Highway 10, the Scenic Highway.
The prescribed fire will reduce hazardous fuels and reduce brush density, a release said. The West Winnie Prescribed Fire is comprised of 3 units, and will be ignited over a period of days. For more information, contact the Chippewa National Forest at (218) 547-1044.
