CASS LAKE -- Weekly Adventure Programs have been added to the Chippewa National Forest’s list of naturalist programs this summer. They are located at the Norway Beach Visitor Center near Cass Lake and the Cut Foot Sioux Visitor Center near Deer River.
Naturalist Karl Gorecki will lead a hike or canoe course in the forest every Thursday. On Friday, June 15, Gorecki will lead a hike to Sunken Lake in the Cut Foot Sioux area at 10 a.m. to kick off the adventure series.

Thursday adventures will include a canoe caravan to First River, hikes to Joyce Estate and along the North Country Trail and a bike ride at Suomi Hills.
Naturalist Ben Hodgson will lead Fishing Friday Adventures. Each week, Hodgson will travel to an accessible fishing pier in the forest and offer fishing tips and advice. Visitors should bring their own fishing gear and bait. It will also be a chance to learn more about fishing techniques and fun facts about fish species, according to a press release. On June 15, Hodgson will be at the Knutson Dam fishing pier at 10 a.m.
Forest naturalist programs are offered Wednesday through Sunday throughout the summer at the visitor centers, but the adventure programs are a chance to venture out a little further and explore the national forest, the release said. Visitor centers are open Wednesday through Sunday from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
