According to the criminal complaint, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children made a cyber tip available to the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension on Oct. 4, 2017. The cyber tip indicated “ChatStep” had an image of suspected child pornography uploaded to a user account on Sept. 23, 2017. “ChatStep” provided the username and IP address for the uploaded image.
A subpoena was sent to Charter Communications in an attempt to identify the user of the IP address. Agents learned the address of the user was Strunk’s.
When officials executed the search warrant, they found a computer containing numerous images of suspected child pornography, including the image uploaded to “ChatStep.”
Strunk could face up to five years in prison and/or a $10,000 fine.
District Judge Leonard A. Weiler set bail at $25,000 with conditions that Strunk keep all his court hearings, remain law abiding and maintain contact with his attorney. As part of the conditions, Strunk was released on his own recognizance.
Strunk did not return calls for comment on Friday.
