ST. PAUL — Anton Treuer won a Minnesota Book Award on Tuesday, April 22, for his first novel, “Where Wolves Don’t Die.”

Treuer has had four previous nonfiction books nominated, the first coming in 2002.

In his acceptance speech, Treuer thanked his wife, Blair, and said he appreciated feedback from some of their nine children during the writing process.

“They’re the harshest critics of them all,” Anton told the Pioneer earlier this month. “So this is good; it’s actually landing, and that’s what we’re going for.”

Our newsroom sometimes reports stories under the byline "Pioneer Staff Report." This byline is used when reporters rewrite basic news briefs that originate from official sources, such as an email or press release that requires little or no reporting.

Other times, this byline is used when a news story includes numerous authors or when the story is formed by aggregating previously reported news from various sources. If outside sources are used, it is noted within the story.
