ST. PAUL — Anton Treuer won a Minnesota Book Award on Tuesday, April 22, for his first novel, “Where Wolves Don’t Die.”
Treuer, a Bemidji State University professor of Ojibwe, beat out four other finalists in the Young Adult Literature category. The award was presented in a ceremony at the Ordway Center for Performing Arts in St. Paul.

Treuer has had four previous nonfiction books nominated, the first coming in 2002.
In his acceptance speech, Treuer thanked his wife, Blair, and said he appreciated feedback from some of their nine children during the writing process.
“They’re the harshest critics of them all,” Anton told the Pioneer earlier this month. “So this is good; it’s actually landing, and that’s what we’re going for.”
