Kelly previously was editor of Agri News (now ) in Rochester, Minn.; the founding editor/publisher of in Sulphur Springs, Texas; a copy editor/reporter at the ; an assistant editor of in Mankato, Minn.; and intern reporter/freelancer at in Eau Claire, Wis.
He has a master's in business administration from the , a and from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls, and an associate in rural communications-broadcasting from the .
Kelly grew up in Leader, Minn., and graduated from Motley (Minn.) High ÍáÍáÂþ». He served as editor of his high school newspaper for a year and editor of the high school yearbook for two years. Active in FFA, he served as a local chapter reporter, president and student advisor; a district and regional reporter officer, and earned his American Farmer Degree. He was also a four-sport letterman in football, track and field, baseball and basketball.
He is a family historian and genealogist.
Kelly is married and lives in . Their adult son lives in Salt Lake City and works as the Pathology IT manager in the University of Utah Medical ÍáÍáÂþ» and is the general manager of the University of Utah Hockey Mens 1 and 2 and Womens 1 programs.
