BEMIDJI — Nameless Coalition for the Homeless and Bi-County Community Action Programs have partnered to create a Community Cultural Garden at The New Day Center in Bemidji.
According to a release, the garden will boast herbs and medicines that are costly or hard to gather in the Bemidji area, such as sage, sweetgrass, dogwood and tobacco, along with ready-to-consume food like cherry tomatoes, that can be picked by homeless individuals and families who may not have access to fresh produce.

A ground blessing ceremony for the new community garden will be held at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 29, at The New Day Center.
A community planting will follow at 10 a.m. on Friday, May 30. Community members are encouraged to attend one or both events and celebrate this project.
This project is funded through the Racial Equity and Accountability Project and the Northwest Minnesota Foundation.
Donations to support the ongoing maintenance of the garden are welcome and can be given to the Nameless Coalition, the release said.
"This free, easily accessible Community Cultural Garden will serve a vital role in healing and maintaining spirituality within the community," added the release.
