BEMIDJI 鈥� Great River Rescue is dropping adoption fees on adoptable dogs from $225 down to $100 until the end of September. The shelter has seen a recent reduction in adoption demand while seeing an increasing demand for the surrender of dogs, which has led to the need for an adoption special.
鈥淲e need to get these dogs into homes,鈥� said Executive Director Brandon Mustful. 鈥淭hey don鈥檛 belong in a shelter. We hope that this special will spur people on to visit these wonderful pups and get them into new homes.鈥�

There are currently nine dogs up for adoption at the shelter, with about 30 more on the intake waiting list. Every shelter dog is examined to determine medical and behavioral needs, receives vet-recommended vaccinations, is microchipped, and is spayed/neutered prior to adoption, a release said.
The estimated cost of all these services which are covered by the adoption fee is about $600. Great River Rescue also hosts a Home to Home website which allows pet owners to re-home their pets directly. Currently, there are 13 dogs waiting for homes through the Home to Home site.
Those interested in adopting can view the adoptable dogs at and schedule an appointment through the site. Potential adopters can also call the shelter to schedule their appointment. While the adoption fees are reduced, all other adoption protocols remain in force, the release said.
