Buena Vista to hold 43rd annual Snowjourn March 2

Bemidji’s oldest ski event, and one of the oldest Minnesota ski events, the 43rd annual Buena Vista Snowjourn will be held at 10 a.m. on Sunday, March 2, on the Buena Vista ski trails.

BEMIDJI — Bemidji’s oldest ski event, and one of the oldest Minnesota ski events, the 43rd annual Buena Vista Snowjourn will be held at 10 a.m. on Sunday, March 2, on the Buena Vista ski trails.

Snowjourn features a 14-kilometer classical and skate race and a 7-kilometer tour. The 14K race involves two laps around the scenic west side trail loop, also used as part of the Minnesota Finlandia ski race. The 7K tour involves one lap around the loop. Snowjourn will also feature a 5-kilometer middle school skate race for those in grades 6-8.

Awards will be presented to the top three male and female finishers in both the classical and skate races. Awards will also be given to top middle school finishers. There is also recognition for skiers who participate in Snowjourn traditionally with wooden skis and woolen wear.

Special awards recognition includes the presentation of the annual Johnson-Jarvi Snowjourn Award to an individual selected for demonstrating long-term support and commitment of cross-country skiing in the Bemidji area. An award will also be presented in honor of Wanda Arenz.

The Snowjourn will be part of Buena Vista Ski Area’s 75th Anniversary celebration. Attendees can sign up to win door prizes.

Registration opens at 9 a.m. in the Hall of Fame building. The race and tour will begin at 10 a.m., followed by the awards ceremony.

The race costs $25 for the 14K races and 7K tour, and $15 for high school and middle school skiers.
