Bemidji Middle حلحلآ‏» recently announced Damielle Lionmere Tomas, Kaelin E., Mohamed Lazim and Peyton Osmundson as fine arts students of the month.

The fine arts student of the month for visual arts is eighth-grader Damielle Lionmere Tomas. He thinks it is important to create with our hands because we are in a time when our lives are full of technology, and the concrete things we make can pull us back to reality and give us a sense of meaning.

Creating can also ignite a spark of inspiration in others minds. What Lionmere Tomas loves most about creating with his hands is the way he's not controlled by the rules of society and it makes him happy to get to create. He loves to make other people happy and feels like creating makes him feel like himself. Lionmere Tomas encourages others to do what they love and be happy.

The fine arts student of the month for choir is Kaelin E. She is in eighth grade and decided to join choir because she enjoys singing and likes music. Her favorite parts of choir are the songs she sings, the activities she does during class and the people she meets there. Her goals for the future include auditioning and making it into the a capella choir at the high school, and possibly even singing in college.

She was chosen as student of the month because she has been in choir for all three years of middle school, frequently tries out for solos, works very hard and is a leader for the middle voice section. She has also been a member of the middle school show choir.

Euphonium player Mohamed Lazim, in grade seven, is the band fine arts student of the month.

"I like how (the euphonium) is a big, but simple instrument," Lazim said. "I like the noise it makes and how it looks like a tuba."

When asked about his future music goals, Lazim said, "I hope to exceed expectations, help my fellow euphoniums and possibly get into honor band."

He leads by example in class and performs at a top-tier level.

“Mohamed is extremely kind and giving," said director Christine Freundschuh. "I can’t ask for a better leader in the classroom."

The fine arts student of the month for art workshop is seventh-grader Peyton Osmundson. Her favorite thing to make in art workshop is wood burning. Osmundson says that it's important to keep making things with your hands in this digital age so you can know how to use tools.

The thing she enjoys the most about making things by hand is the fact that you know that you made it.
