During the month of September, the Bemidji Community Food Shelf is celebrating the hundreds of volunteers who help operate the food shelf.

According to a release, over 600 volunteers from area churches, community members and businesses help in various jobs. In 2022, the food shelf served over 28,000 people from 9,200 families in Beltrami County.

Volunteers help in four specific job areas: shopper intake, helping shoppers select their food, stocking shelves and in the warehouse processing donations.

The food shelf offers two three-hour shifts a day on Monday, Wednesday and Friday that run from 9 a.m. to noon and from noon to 3 p.m.

Anyone wishing to learn about volunteering at the food shelf can call Debbi Johnson at (218) 444-6580 or email bcfsvolunteer@gmail.com.

Our newsroom sometimes reports stories under the byline "Pioneer Staff Report." This byline is used when reporters rewrite basic news briefs that originate from official sources, such as an email or press release that requires little or no reporting.

Other times, this byline is used when a news story includes numerous authors or when the story is formed by aggregating previously reported news from various sources. If outside sources are used, it is noted within the story.
