Sanford Health welcomes Haroldson, MD, to anesthesia team at Bemidji medical center

BEMIDJI, Minn. – Sanford Health recently welcomed anesthesiologist Alexander Haroldson, MD, to Sanford Bemidji Medical Center.

Dr. Haroldson provides a variety of services including evaluating, diagnosing and treating acute, chronic and postoperative pain, monitoring patients during sedation, providing general and regional anesthesia, and using ultrasounds to place arterial and central lines.

He offers anesthesia during procedures related to cardiovascular care, general surgery, gynecology, obstetrics, orthopedic care, pediatrics and various other medical specialties.

Dr. Haroldson attended the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee, Wis., and completed his residency in anesthesiology at the University of Washington in Seattle, Wash.

Originally from the rural community of Cornell in northwestern Wisconsin, Dr. Haroldson has an appreciation for small town life. He loves outdoor activities like fishing and camping, and he enjoys a wide variety of sports, including basketball, pickleball and weight training.

First National Bank Bemidji, in partnership with Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines (FHLB Des Moines), is pleased to announce that the United Way of the Bemidji Area on behalf of the Beltrami County Housing Trust Fund will receive a $20,000 grant from the Member Impact Fund. This matching grant program will result in FHLB Des Moines awarding $20 million in funding to support affordable housing and community development in Minnesota.

BEMIDJI, Minn. – Sanford Health welcomes Dylan Kaisersatt, APRN, CNP, to the Sanford Bemidji Heart and Vascular Center, located at 1300 Anne St. NW, in Bemidji.

Kaisersatt is an advanced practice nurse practitioner who works closely with physicians while caring for patients of all ages. Kaisersatt is able to obtain a patient’s medical records, order and interpret diagnostic tests and perform physical exams.

He prioritizes educating patients about disease management and risk factors for heart disease, such as smoking and lack of physical activity. Kaisersatt treats the following conditions:

· Heart arrhythmia (irregular heartbeat)

Netland is a nurse practitioner who provides family and non-emergency medical care. She works collaboratively with physicians to provide same-day walk-in care for minor illnesses and injuries. Netland can treat most medical needs for the entire family, from infants to adults.

Bariatric Surgery Program at Sanford Health in Bemidji receives Comprehensive Center designation from MBSAQIP

BEMIDJI, Minn. – Sanford Health in Bemidji has achieved accreditation as a Comprehensive Center under the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP). MBSAQIP is a collaborative quality program of the American College of Surgeons (ACS) and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS). This marks the first-time accreditation for Bemidji as a Comprehensive Center.

The MBSAQIP Comprehensive Center designation acknowledges facilities whose bariatric or weight-loss surgery programs meet the highest standards for patient safety and quality of care. To receive the designation Sanford Health's program successfully met extensive criteria related to clinical outcomes, staffing, training, facility infrastructure, and care protocols to ensure its capacity to support patients with severe obesity.

Comprehensive Centers also require a multidisciplinary team—including surgeons, dietitians, psychologists, cardiologists, nephrologists, and physical therapists—to provide in-depth evaluations, behavioral therapy and long-term postoperative care.

The Weight Loss Surgery program at Sanford Health in Bemidji is led by board-certified, fellowship-trained surgeons Michael Joannides, MD, and Dave Faugno-Fusci, MD. With the Comprehensive Center designation, Sanford Health can now treat all patients, 18 and older, who are interested in weight loss surgery. Additionally, the designation expands the variety of surgical procedures available locally, including gastric bypass, sleeve gastrectomy and bariatric surgery revisions and conversions, using robotic-assisted, laparoscopic and endoscopic surgery options.

McIntosh, Fosston Public Libraries to host Prairie Public's Learning Express Trailer

MCINTOSH — The McIntosh Public Library and the Fosston Public Library will each offer access to Prairie Public's Learning Express Trailer this month.

The trailer is packed with resource bins filled with kits, games and activities for youth and families during library open hours, a release said.

The trailer will visit the McIntosh Public Library, 115 Broadway NW., July 7-11 and will be at the Fosston Public Library, 403 Foss Ave. N., July 14-18.

These programs are part of free events for youth offered as part of the library's jungle-themed Summer Reading Program. Participants can read to win prizes as well as attend educational and entertaining programs at their local library or library LINK Site.

Women United Impact Breakfast set for July 10

BEMIDJI — The United Way of Bemidji Area will hold its quarterly Women United Impact Breakfast at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 10, at Bemidji State University's Beaux Arts Ballroom.

The doors will open at 8 a.m., with breakfast to follow. This quarter's panel will feature a presentation by Ashlea McMartin and Becky Secore of Sanford Behavioral Health, who will speak on "Boundaries and Life Balance at Home and in the Workplace," a release said.

"McMartin and Secore bring years of experience in leadership roles and have spent their lives supporting individuals and families through mental health services, with a focus on practical strategies for wellness and resilience," the release added.

Attendees will also receive updates on United We Grow: A Mentoring Program for Women, part of Women United’s continued focus on leadership, growth and community connection.

Women United is a group of community-minded individuals dedicated to creating opportunities and providing support through United Way’s focus areas: Financial Stability, Healthy Community and Youth Opportunity.

Bagley Public Library to host Headwaters Science Center

BAGLEY — The Bagley Public Library is teaming up with the Headwaters Science Center to present "Animal Menagerie" from 10 a.m. to noon on Wednesday, July 9, at 79 Spencer Ave. SW.

At the event, youth will learn all about animal habitats, adaptations, defenses and interesting facts, a release said.

This educational program is part of several free events for youth offered as part of Lake Agassiz Regional Library's jungle-themed Summer Reading Program.
