John Eggers

John Eggers is a former university professor and principal who lives in the Bemidji, Minnesota, area. He writes education columns for the Bemidji Pioneer newspaper.

John is a former Peace Corps volunteer in Uruguay, taught in Iran and the inner city of Camden, New Jersey and the reservations of northern Minnesota.

If you want to help kids who are finding marginal success, you have to create a school different from what we now have. A huge first step is establishing a 100% graduation rate goal.
When you speak to a 1%’er, one thing they will always say is that it truly was the best of times to grow up. I would agree.
Hope keeps us going. It gives us something to look forward to. The opposite of hope is everlasting grief and sorrow. Life is too short to let it slip away in despair.

Yes, lots of kids need help. Some need serious mental health counseling. But all kids want to graduate and all kids want to have hope.
